Central England Law Centre is the UK’s largest Law Centre, with a national reputation for innovation and excellence in its legal practice. We are a charity that provides free specialist legal advice to people in Coventry and Birmingham who are most in need. We advocate for people, challenge unfair decisions, take cases to the highest courts and work in partnerships with other support services.  We work tirelessly to fulfil our vision of a society where people’s rights are upheld, their needs met, and in which everybody can thrive.

At the heart of its approach is total commitment to services that address all the interconnected problems people face in their everyday lives. Poverty lies at the core of these issues.  We need to build a stronger response that reaches those who are least likely to know that they have legal rights.

This is an excellent opportunity for a specialist welfare benefits advisor to join an established and well-respected welfare benefits team and head up an exciting project in collaboration with Coventry University.  This project enables students to provide advice and advocacy for clients of the Law Centre who wish to appeal decisions made about their disability related benefits.  By working in partnership with the University the Law Centre can offer advice and representation to clients who otherwise may not be able to obtain representation and to provide a range of opportunities for Law students to gain practical experience while completing their degrees. The project has been running successfully for two years now and has had a very high success rate on the appeals, as well as getting great feedback from the students.

You will be responsible for running the project, recruiting the students, providing relevant training and support and managing the through put of cases.  You will also have the opportunity to take on your own cases and work within a highly skilled welfare benefits team.

The Law Centre is in the heart of the City and a 5-minute walk from the railway station.

Our terms and conditions include a 37-hour week, 28 days holiday (rising to 35 days after 5 years service) plus 8 statutory days, and pension scheme membership.
