Employment & Discrimination Caseworker/Solicitor - Fixed Term Employment and Discrimination Caseworker/Solicitor - Fixed Term Salary £29,000 - £32,907 FTE per annum (dependent on experience) Central England Law Centre has a national reputation for innovation and excellence in its legal practice. We are a charity that employs solicitors and provides free, specialist legal advice; operating from our main office in Coventry City Centre and our Birmingham office in Tyseley. We currently employ over 60 staff and work with volunteers and students from local universities. We are looking to appoint a Caseworker/Solicitor for our Employment and Discrimination Team based at our Coventry Office. This is a fixed term role funded by the Ministry of Justice as part of their Legal Support for Litigants in Person scheme which runs until 30th June 2022. We are working in partnership on this project with the Derbyshire Law Centre. You will be joining us at a critical time in developing new approaches as we build a ‘new normal’ post-COVID-19. This is an extremely important role as through this project we will seek to demonstrate the importance of high quality legal advice being available to protect employment rights, in particular at a time when the effect of Covid-19 is likely to have a heavy impact on many workers, particularly those who are low paid, such as unfair dismissal as a result of unfair selection for redundancy, unlawful deductions form wages, breach of contract, and discrimination. The role of Employment and Discrimination Caseworker/Solicitor is crucial to the organisation. Reporting to the Employment Team Leader, you will be a key member of a team providing advice and casework support to clients and working with partner organisations in Coventry and Birmingham. The role is central to the Law Centre’s operations and you will use your specialist knowledge of Employment and Discrimination Law to get involved in the full breadth of the day-to-day work of the charity. You will join a growing team and your work will involve advising clients, assisting with supervision of our student and volunteer advisers, providing casework support, maintaining case files to a high standard, undertaking legal aid casework, keeping accurate records and maintaining and feeding back statistical data for the purposes of evaluating the project, and, working with our partner organisations, in particular Derbyshire Law Centre who are our partners in this project.
