In 2019-20 Central England Law Centre helped over 6,000 people, 820 were homeless or at risk of losing their home.
Homelessness in all its forms continues to have an impact on the residents in our communities – whether this is the very visible issue of people ‘sleeping rough’ on the streets, or young people leaving home or care, or families struggling to maintain continuity and stability for their children in temporary accommodation.
The reasons people become homeless are complex.
A major focus of the work of Central England Law Centre is preventing homelessness, or working to help people get stable accommodation.
Some of the casework we do is with people who are homeless or at immediate risk of homelessness.
But we also have an emphasis on working in partnership and focusing on prevention and tackling problems early, so some of our work is aimed at helping people avoid homelessness.

We have provided our legal advice services at the Hub in Birmingham on a monthly basis since 2015 and have done this in a way that fits in with their philosophy of building supportive relationships in order to help the local community understand that may of their problems have a legal solution. SIFA work with some of the most vulnerable adults in society: those experiencing homelessness or who are vulnerably-housed. Last year we helped 162 people - mostly with welfare benefit issues and problems relating to their immigration status. Read more
