This service helps children who were born in the UK, or who now call the UK their home and intend to remain here, to assess their citizenship status and to take action to acquire residency or citizenship in the UK.

Where we work

CELC takes cases from children in England and Wales.  
The Migrant and Refugee Children's Legal Unit at ILC takes cases from Greater London.

About KIND and KIND UK

KIND (Kids in Need of Defense) works in the UK to strengthen the rights and protection of refugee and migrant children and young people.

KIND works with law firms and corporate legal partners to provide free, independent legal advice and representation to those who need it most. KIND works to ensure that children and young people’s rights are protected so they can move, settle securely and thrive in the UK.  

Central England Law Centre is one of 5 expert organisations partnering with KIND to protect children across the UK - Central England Law Centre, Coram Children’s Legal Centre, Greater Manchester Immigration Aid Unit, JustRight Scotland, and the Migrant and Refugee Children’s Legal Unit at Islington Law Centre. 

The collaboration work on around 500 cases per year and have consistently achieved a 98% success rate in cases with an outcome. In the last year, almost 1,000 lawyers from law firms and corporate legal partners worked on KIND cases across the UK.

About KIND

KIND is a global NGO which protects the rights and wellbeing of unaccompanied and separated children and other vulnerable groups of refugee and migrant children through the provision of legal and psychosocial assistance, advocacy, capacity building and systems strengthening work.

In the UK, working with 5 partner organisations - Central England Law Centre, Coram Children’s Legal Centre, Greater Manchester Immigration Aid Unit, JustRight Scotland, and the Migrant and Refugee Children’s Legal Unit at Islington Law Centre - KIND helps children in need of legal assistance.  

By mentoring and training pro bono lawyers to guide children through the UK’s immigration and citizenship systems, the project addresses gaps in legal services and provides free, independent legal advice and representation to those who need it most on issues excluded from state legal aid or where state legal aid is insufficient
