We believe if people have the knowledge, skills and confidence to recognise situations where there are legal rights that protect them, they will avoid problems. Where they do encounter a problem, they will be able to identify if there may be a legal solution and so be able to use the law more effectively to tackle it.
We’ve been piloting partnerships with organisations to embed a rights-based approach to their work, as well as working with individuals to build their legal capability. Our programmes of work are helping us understand how best to engage individuals in activities that will build their knowledge of when legal rights might offer them protection and the confidence to then use those rights to solve their issue. We’re also developing new and innovative ways to support non-advice organisations to build a rights-based approach into their work with the most vulnerable people and we’re building a clear understanding of the characteristics that define organisations who are most likely to successfully to so.
