CELC is working with LawFairy to support faster, more consistent immigration and nationality eligibility assessments for children, young people, and vulnerable clients. The project supports LawFairy’s development of structured legal intelligence to help identify relevant routes, surface key issues and support referrals into specialist legal advice.

CELC has partnered with LawFairy since the early stages of their product development, to tackle the complex problems associated with evaluating citizenship and nationality pathways for people in or coming to the UK. Structured legal intelligence matches the challenges of a deep and complex regulatory structure, with many routes to improving a client’s legal situation being characterised by complex, nested inclusions and exceptions. Decisions about which route to take are often highly consequential for clients, and the information on which these decisions rests is sometimes not obvious, either to the client or a frontline worker without immigration specialism.

LawFairy supports faster triaging decisions and quicker resolution to the most straightforward cases in our Child Citizenship Project, by providing a way for junior staff and volunteers to access the expert knowledge we’ve worked to embed in the LawFairy child citizenship model. Unlike an LLM-driven system, we can be confident in LawFairy’s correctness based on the information provided, and we can see the reasoning behind each decision, supporting skills and understanding development for our staff and volunteers.

While we’re still evaluating the detailed performance of LawFairy as it launches into production, we’ve found that in testing Law Fairy reduced the time taken for triage decisions by half, and allows our volunteers to put together a ‘triage package’ with relevant information surfaced for review by our senior staff.
