Supporting clients to migrate to Universal Credit

The process of moving people from legacy benefits to Universal Credit began in 2023 and will take place over a two-year period.

The legacy benefits that are being replaced are:

Income Support
Income-based Jobseekers Allowance
Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
Housing Benefit,
Child Tax Credit
Working Tax Credit

Until people receive a Universal Credit Migration Notice, they can remain on the legacy benefits they are receiving as long as they remain entitled to them, unless they make a claim for Universal Credit.

Moving From Tax Credit to Universal Credit

People currently receiving Tax Credits are being moved or ‘migrated’ onto Universal Credit.
This process will start on 22nd January 2024 for those living in Coventry (please note: this date has been moved forward from February 2024) and in March 2024 for those living in Birmingham.
