After a successful pilot project completed in July 2018, we are building on this unique model of public legal education to reach more groups of health and social care service users to tackle a shared issue using the law. In this phase we are also engaging the organisations that support them to use a rights based approach in their advocacy and support. This project is funded by The Legal Education Foundation.

Our pilot project worked with 7 groups (60 participants in total) of parents/carers of learning and/or physically disabled adults and children and parents with no recourse to public funds. They came together around very specific issues that they identified they wanted to tackle. Each group was facilitated by a legal expert.

The independent evaluation showed a significant increase in participant’s legal capability across a range of indicators and evidence of a wide range of actions being taken by members as a result to resolve their or their family members social care issues.
